Tanglewood Performance Marine decided to go racing in 1991. Joe, his son Joey, and his wife Lori began there offshore racing team and called it " Crazy Rythm Racing". They used a 28' Magnum which they rigged and raced in the A-Class Offshore racing. A lot of work went into changing it over to a safe, fast, top contending A.P.B.A. race boat. Well we think it was well worth it. You see, we got that Magnum to go close to 90 MPH and that made us the fastest 28, Magnum Maltase racing in the 90's 2000 and 2002, 2nd place in Great Lakes Silver Cup Series, Outlaw "B" class In February 2002, Joe Turek, Sr. passed away. The re-design of this web site was done in memory of "Big Joe". 1935-2002
In 1992 &1994 they won the United States Offshore Central Region Championship, placed first in the LSCORA Great Lakes Trophy Series, and finished third in the World Championships at Key West, FL When the 1993 series concluded ,the Crazy Rythm Racing Team was ranked second in a fiercely competitive Central Division, placing third in the Key West World Series as well as was runner up in the LSCORA Great Lakes Trophy series. In 1994 they again won the Central Division Championship and won the LSCORA Great Lakes Trophy Series.
Joey Turek  -     Driver
Joey Turek, is the Owner of Tanglewood Performance Marine. Joey has been involved in competitive sports for a number of years prior to strapping on his helmet to pilot "Crazy Rythm". He played Football in High School, where he was voted " Most valuable Player and All Conference Defensive Tackle" as well as two years of College ball. He also successfully applied his skills to racing motorcycles in Motorcross and Ice racing. In 1991, shortly after he and his farther purchased the 28' Magnum, they decided to rig it for A-Class Offshore Racing and began the successful campaign noted earlier. In 1994 Joey was the recipient of the Caesar's Marine Award, "Driver of the Year".
Neal Crain  -  Throttleman
Neal "Red" Crain, when not racing, is involved in Environmental Waste Hauling including Underground Tank Removal; Drum Removal as well as hauling waste. Red's Hobbies include Drag Racing, Skiing, Snowmobile Racing, and bowling. His most memorable boat racing experience was winning Traverse City, Michigan in Stock Class - his home state, in a small boat in poor racing conditions. He is an excellent driving instructor who really enjoys taking new drivers under his wing and watching them excel in this competitive environment. His pupils include national/world champions such as Bob Kaiser, Russ Wilkin, Dave Street, and Gary Stewie.His racing successes include over 37 First Place Finishes including World Champion - 1981, Maverick; 1981 US-1 Champion, Nasty. He has raced with more than 35 different race teams.
